Watch: Digawolf [Ohdah/Elder]
It’s been a big year for Yellowknife’s Digawolf.
Following a nomination for Aboriginal Artist of the Year at the 2016 Western Canadian Music Awards, the group recently learned they were up for Rock Album of the Year at the 2017 Indigenous Music Awards in Winnipeg. Now they’re back with a brand new music video for Ohdah/Elder.
Recorded entirely in Tłįchǫ, the first language of lead singer Dzǫetsè (aka Jesse James), the song unfolds as a conversation between a youth and an Elder. Like many of the tracks from Great Northern Man — and Dzǫetsè himself — Ohdah aims to preserve and pass along the Tłįchǫ traditions to the next generation. Shot in Yellowknife by Cabin Productions, the video blends live performance with beautiful shots of the Northern Lights and life in the Northwest Territories.
