Growing up in the remote community of Nuuk, Greenland, Aqqalu Berthelsen didn’t have access to an electronic music scene. So he took it upon himself to create one.
Working under the stage name Uyarakq, the DJ/producer has gone on to release albums, perform at festivals like SXSW, and collaborate with rappers, throat singers and everything in between. He also pays his success forward by providing free mixing and mastering to Indigenous artists around the world.
In the latest DD Spotlight, Uyarakq talks about the music scene in Greenland, shares his advice to young artists and more.
