Midnight Shine: Sister Love

You could call the formation of Midnight Shine a happy accident.

Back in 2011, front man Adrian Sutherland had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open for Trooper — but there was a catch. He needed a band.

Enter Zach Tomatuk (guitar/vocals), Stan Louttit (bass/vocals), and George Gillies (drums/vocals), and the rest is history. Six years later, the Northern Ontario rockers have two albums, countless live performances and a heap of positive reviews under their belts. But making music together has been anything but easy. With Sutherland based in Attawapiskat, Gillies in Fort Albany, and Tomatuk and Louttit in Moose Factory, distance has forced the band to make the most of their limited time together.

Most recently, the guys reconnected at Jukasa Studios in Ohsweken, Ont., to record their latest single, Sister Love. Blending their familiar roots and rock stylings with a welcome punch of pop, the result is an upbeat earworm destined to become the band’s biggest song to date.
