Meet the Artist: Sacramento Knoxx
Name: Sacramento Knoxx
City: Southwest Detroit
A bit about myself:
I’m a a Xicanx and Anishinaabe interdisciplinary artist with strong Detroit roots sharing interactive music performances, blending captured moments in life and creative imagery through large projection motion graphics.
Queen, Christopher Wallace, Dream Hampton, Invincible, Waajeed, DJ Dez, Lucy Hinojosa, my mother (Nancy Yepez), Christy Bieber, and Southwest Detroit before it was cool.
The first album I bought:
Ready to Die, Notorious B.I.G.
The first concert I went to:
Ozzy Osborne at the Joe Louis Arena.
The last concert I went to:
Jay Electronica in Detroit.
The last song I listened to:
Project Pat, If You Ain’t From My Hood.
My favourite song of all time:
The one song I wish I’d written:
That’s a real hard question. I am trying to write these thoughts and ideas right now.
My dream gig:
To play a gig somewhere far out in the universe.
Myself in three words:
Compassionate. Hardworking. Celestial.
Best piece of advice I’ve ever received:
Protect the sacred, from my community.
Beatles or Rolling Stones:
Rodriguez from Southwest Detroit.
What I do to pay the bills:
I’m a cultural worker, musician and motion picture artist.
When I’m not making music, I’m …
Helping to breathe life into the community with others.
Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I am actually an introvert.
What I’m currently working on:
I am aggressively working on music this year, opening up the vaults of the music that has been created over the last few years to be released. I just finished a new beat tape called Aadizookaanan Anaamaagon (Stories Under the Snow), which is available on all platforms with a special edition on bandcamp. It’s a cosmic mix of trap vibes, experimental sequences, dirty electronic soundwaves, soulful blues, boom bap bangin’ beats, infused with Detroit Techno, all coming together for a wavy instrumental album.
Now I’m moving into working on delivering all types of dynamic music from instrumentals to lyrical storytelling, live beat-making on stage, and immersive music creation with others.
If my life were a song, the title would be …
