Meet The Artist: Nigel Irwin

Name: Nigel Irwin

Nigel Irwin

Nigel Irwin

City: Toronto

Genre: Nostalgia-pop

A bit about myself:

Aaniin Nigel Irwin ndizinkaz, Addik doodem Caribou Clan, Cree-Irish, native to Toronto. I started playing rock n’ roll and found something else.

My musical Influences:

Sixties, vaporwave, funkadelic dance music, crooners, Daniel Johnston.

The first album I bought:

Graduation, Kanye West.

The first concert I went to:

Third Day.

The last concert I went to:

Mother Mother.

The last song I listened to:

My song, ROMP.

My favourite song of all time:

It’s Real, John Lennon.

The one song I wish I’d written:

Baby I Need Your Loving, The Four Tops.

My dream gig:

Massey Hall (I worked there for five years, and still do.)

Myself in three words:

Charming, tough, good-hearted.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received:

“You learn to play music by listening to it.” I heard that exact phrase from both a high school music teacher and a fellow student who played wicked guitar. Since then I strive to hear my way through a song.

Beatles or Rolling Stones?

This question always make me think of how the Beatles wrote the Stones their first single, I Wanna Be Your Man. No contest. The fab four were something else.

When I’m not making music I’m …

Working on new music, or writing an article, or doing prep for a show.

What I do to pay the bills:

Freelance writer, actor, front of house gigs.

Something people would be surprised to learn about me …

I’ve never eaten sushi, and I have no plans to.

If my life was a song, the title would be …

Feast or Famine.
