In Focus: Winnipeg Folk Festival 2018
There’s a lot to love about the Winnipeg Folk Festival. The natural setting, the summer vibes and — of course — the consistently epic lineups. But one of our favourite things about Folk Fest is their ongoing support of Indigenous talent.
Over the years, they’ve showcased artists from Buffy Sainte-Marie to William Prince and hosted workshops like Native North America: A Selection of Musical Trailblazers on Stage and Dub Step Pow Wow. This year they kept things going with a series of collaborations and solo sets from A Tribe Called Red, Leonard Sumner, Archie Roach, Las Cafeteras and nêhiyawak.
Needless to say, it was a festival experience we won’t soon forget. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights.
