In Focus: Northern Lights Festival Boréal 2017

You know you’re in for a fantastic festival experience when the headliners include Andy Shauf, Yukon Blonde and Whitehorse. But the highlight of Sudbury’s 2017 edition of the Northern Lights Festival Boréal was its unprecedented stage time for Indigenous talent.

In addition to living legend Buffy Sainte-Marie and the extremely in-demand A Tribe Called Red, NLFB showcased up-and-coming Indigenous artists like Leonard Sumner, Nick Sherman and Juno nominee Bryden Gwiss Kiwenzie. On Thursday alone, the main stage featured sets from the Black Bull Moose Singers, Ansley Simpson, No Reservations (yes, the 90s rock group, who reunited specifically for NLFB 2017!), Quantum Tangle, Joy Harjo, The Jerry Cans and Buffy.

Needless to say, it was a show for the ages and one that we won’t soon forget. Here’s a look back at the magical night.
